Announcing a possible clinical trial for people diagnosed with MS in the UK.
A meeting of minds - the Medica Health team meets up with Professor TimWatson, the UK's guru on 'energy medicine'

Last week, Laurence Heylen and Richard Sulat, Medica Health's Managing Director and Technical Consultant respectively, met up with Tim Watson, Professor of Physiotherapy at the University of Herefordshire, to introduce to him the Viofor JPS System, a magnetostimulation therapy 'bed', developed over the last 15 years by the world's leading scientific experts in magnetostimulation and now available in the UK through Medica Health.

Professor Tim Watson, whose website www.electrotherapy.org provides an independent view on the current state of electromagnetic therapy, is a leading protagonist of energy medicine and shares Medica Health's view that if treatment involving electromagnetic therapy produces results matching those produced by traditional pharmaceuticals, then it must constitute the better option.

As a result, he has been working with the Greek government on an EU-sponsored trial in Cyprus amongst people diagnosed with MS - and is now eager to set up a clinical trial in the UK, focusing on the effectiveness of Medica Health's Viofor JPS System in alleviating the symptoms of MS.

Whilst Medica Health is able to provide results from stringent clinical and scientific research across Europe, this will be the first clinical trial in the UK.

Kathleen Ireland - diagnosed with MS seven years ago - had lost all feeling in her legs and was confined to a wheelchair when she heard about a nearby clinic which offered electro magnetostimulation therapy via the Viofor JPS 'bed'. She tried it and has been having the treatment twice a week. The results came slowly but were quite startling.

"I'm now walking again with a walker and have actually done 5 steps on my own. And I've got more energy. I used to fall asleep at the drop of a hat." says Kathleen.

Even more importantly, Kathleen has come off steroids and is still making progress. The Viofor JPS System utilises a slow-changing, low induction magnetic field that works with the body's natural frequencies to reduce pain and to help reverse the symptoms of many major conditions, including MS and other problems of the nervous system.

"I was sceptical at first, but slowly, slowly things started to improve. My bladder's not perfect, but it's so much better. I couldn't lie down before because I couldn't get up fast enough to go to the loo. Now I can relax."

Certified by the EU as medical apparatus, the Viofor JPS System has been clinically demonstrated to help in the treatment of MS. People like Kathleen can benefit from reduced fatigue, decreased spasticity, improved mobility, better bladder control and reduced pain.

"My husband can't believe how much going on the bed helped. I used to go to Tesco in a wheelchair with a basket on my knee - now I can walk around and do my shopping bit by bit every day. We're on a limited income, but we've just decided we have to buy our own so I can use it at home every day."

For further information about our beds and how you can buy one, please call us on 0870 609 4583. But we'll leave the last word to MRS Ireland.

"There are a lot of tiny little things but they add up to so much. And most of all, it's given me hope."

An uplifting experience at the Bournemouth and District branch of the MS society

Following the launch of the revolutionary Viofor JPS System at the MS LIFE Conference in Manchester, the Medica Health team was invited to visit the Bournemouth and District branch to demonstrate to the members how the product could work for them.

Not surprisingly, since this system is new to the UK, there was some initial scepticism amongst the audience of around 40 attendees. As a result, not only did Laurence Heylen, Medica Health’s Managing Director, explain the science and clinical research behind magnetostimulation therapy, he and the team also offered a session on the ‘bed’ to all those who were interested to experience it for themselves.

The results for some were immediately noticeable. One lady, who had shuffled in using a zimmer frame, was able to take proper steps when she left: another was able to lift the leg she had previously been dragging as the result of a stroke: yet others started to feel a sensation in their legs which they had not been able to feel before. These might seem small changes, but to those people diagnosed with MS, even small improvements are so important...and regular users of the bed who visited the MS LIFE exhibition were happy to confirm that the benefits they had received included reduced fatigue, decreased spasticity, improved mobility, better bladder control and reduced pain.

All of the trial sessions which the Medica Health team was able to provide, together with friendly conversation over lunch, made for a rewarding and uplifting day for all who were able to attend...so much so that the team has been invited to run a 2 day event at a later date and to talk with the committee about the possibility of a bed being purchased by the Bournemouth and District branch for use by its members.

Successful first demonstration of Viofor JPS equipment at MS Life 22nd& 23rd April 2006

This last weekend saw the launch by Medica Health of the revolutionary JPS Viofor System to those who were able to attend the MS LIFE Conference at G-Mex Manchester.

Although this system is new to the UK, with Medica Health appointed as sole distributor only last year, it is already widely used within the health systems of many European countries, with thousands of ‘beds’ being sold across Germany, France, Poland, Austria and Switzerland. And these are being sold to hospitals and clinics, doctors in general practice, therapists and sports doctors as well as to members of the public for use in their own home.

Medica Health was the only company at this major exhibition able to offer a product that has been developed by the world’s leading scientific experts in magnetostimulation and that has undergone stringent clinical and scientific research. Tests have shown that, in the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis, significant improvements are made by users of Low Frequency Magnetic Fields, as delivered by the Viofor JPS System. The first trials in treating MS were undertaken by the eminent US-based Professor R Sandyk, in whose latest study 90% of people with MS showed improvements.

Those visitors to our stand at the exhibition who had already experienced some length of treatment on the ‘bed’ were happy to confirm that the benefits they had received included reduced fatigue, decreased spasticity, improved mobility, better bladder control and reduced pain. And the Medica Health team were delighted to be able to provide more information to over 500 visitors, at least 100 of whom had a free therapy session. Even after a session lasting between 12 to 20 minutes, most of our visitors noticed some change in their condition – including feeling a sensation in parts of the body which they had not been able to feel before and a reduction in pain.

Towards the end of the exhibition, Laurence Heylen, Medica Health’s Managing Director was approached by Radio 4 to give an interview on this unique piece of equipment. And journalists from the MS magazines were all interested in to hear more about it. Look out for their reviews and the photographs they took of the stand and the ‘beds’.
